The Common Good
Instapundit points us to an absolute gem:
Headlining an appearance with other Democratic women senators on behalf of Sen. Barbara Boxer, who is up for re-election this year, Hillary Clinton told several hundred supporters — some of whom had ponied up as much as $10,000 to attend — to expect to lose some of the tax cuts passed by President Bush if Democrats win the White House and control of Congress.
“Many of you are well enough off that … the tax cuts may have helped you,” Sen. Clinton said. “We’re saying that for America to get back on track, we’re probably going to cut that short and not give it to you. We’re going to take things away from you on behalf of the common good.”
We know that the liberal left feels that the money you earn doesn’t truly belong to you, that the government has a greater right to your prosperity than you do. It’s just extremely rare that a prominent liberal Democrat will come right out and say it. Finally, somebody pointed to the elephant in the living room and cried, “See? There it is! A big gray pachyderm! It’s right there!”
Thanks, Mrs. Clinton, for showing us your true face.
The big GOP elephant in the room is “let the rich keep everything they have and pay as little taxes as possible in the hope that maybe they’ll let some of the cash ‘trickle down’ into the rest of society.” It would be nice if a prominant official from the “conservative right” gave voice to that elephant and stop hiding behind so-called “compassionate conservativism.” Mrs. Clinton only voiced what proponents of welfare programs always say; in order to help society, we need a substantial proportion of the wealth to fall into the hands of the masses. I don’t want to hear about “throwing money at the problem” or other such rhetoric; I’m talking about funding education and business in the economically distressed areas. Lately, many of our legislators (left, right, middle, whatever) voted to throw money at the wealthy. I like what Clinton said. It’s more honest than our politicians have been in a long time.
How is allowing to keep prosperity that’s earned “throwing money at the wealthy?” At what point do we stop punishing success? How much more of my paycheck must be taken away until the common good is fulfilled? How much of the substantial proportion must come from me to maintain a social program that doesn’t work?
According to many, I’M rich. Fuck those many, fuck Hillary Clinton, and fuck each and every collectivist who wants to tax me more because the never-satisfied public good is still hungry. I work hard every day, and the endless brinksmanship game of “How much more can we tax you for the public good” is an appallingly demoralizing aspect of looking at my paycheck.
Apparently, then, it doesn’t matter that the wealthy still take on the majority of the tax burden, despite tax cuts. Apparently, allowing people to keep and spend money they’ve earned doesn’t create business, help employ people, or encourage production. If I’m eating pizza, a collectivist somewhere will say that there’s a family in a depressed economic neighborhood with nothing but an empty Domino’s box and growling stomachs. Fuck them. I have to eat, too.
Compassionate conservatism, whatever that is, is indeed bullshit. It’s a fig leaf covering collectivist ideas, like giving the government more money to solve problems is an intrinsically good thing. I’m speaking up right here and now, and I’m a member of the conservative right: I don’t believe in compassionate conservatism. It’s a lie to get collectivists to vote Republican.
I certainly did not directly benefit from the tax cuts Hilary was referring to, but I nonetheless had a big problem with the sentiment expressed. It sounded suspiciously like, “From each according to his ability, to each according to his need.” Never a scarier proposition, in my opinion! Since when are we living in a socialist society? I do not want any more my hard-earned money involuntarily going to programs I may or may not support. I support many causes that benefit social welfare, but I do so on a voluntary basis.
Yeah, because what the schools that can’t afford text books and chalk in the classroom really need is another tax cut for rich people.
Did you ever stop to think that maybe she’s right? Because guess what, she is. But to you all social programs “don’t work” no matter what. You ask how much needs to be taken before society is satisfied? I don’t know the answer to that, but I do know it’s a hell of a lot more than what they’re taking now.
But you don’t care about that. You are a typical selfish conservative. No matter how much proof is out there that many (MOST) social programs benefit society, you don’t care. “THEY DON’T WORK GIMME MY MONEY I’M NOT RICH YOU JUST SAY I AM!!! WAAAAAAAH!”
It DOES matter that the wealthy take on most of the tax burden. They should take on more of it. Maybe Jay Leno should give a few million dollars to schools, to infrastructure, to SOCIETY instead of buying his 500th car to go into his collection. Or do you think he somehow deserves to own 500 cars for telling bad jokes every night?
Just because you think you work hard everyday doesn’t mean other people don’t work just as hard or more hard than you, yet still don’t make as much money as you. Teacher’s salaries are a JOKE. Do you think they don’t work hard? Taking care of 30 spoiled little brats all day while you sit at a desk typing on a computer and drinking coffee? Public school teachers need TAX MONEY to live, but you couldn’t care less. Not only that, but schools are forced to cut programs, letting the vulnerable kids who are still young enough to be saved to hit the streets and join gangs. And when those gangs start killing, what is your solution? BUILD MORE JAILS!! TOUGHER SENTENCES!! LET MORE PEOPLE OWN GUNS YEAH!!! All because you get an extra little bit out of your paycheck that would have otherwise gone to taxes, which would have gone to that particular school, which would have paid for extra curricular activities which would have given that gang member who shot the street up the other day HOPE and a FUTURE. Do you care? No, you do not.
And the public school system is just one example of the many programs that are decaying right now as I type this thanks to Bush and his useless tax cuts. But it?s OK, SOCIAL PROGRAMS NEVER WORK NO MATTER WHAT GIMME MY MONEY BACK!!!
FUCK HILLARY CLINTON !!!! :0)
