Much has been made of Obama’s being called a socialist.  Typically, the sorts of people who object to this characterization of Obama are the same people who voted for him.  And, let’s face it: nobody who voted for Obama really did so because they wanted less government interference in their lives.

Here’s a definition of socialism:

any of various economic and political theories advocating collective or governmental ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods.

Let’s see what Obama’s done so far in his time in office.

First, he signed the Stimulus Bill. The cost: approximately $790 billion.  The purpose: to stimulate the economy by creating jobs, increasing consumer spending, and a whole host of other methods.  The government will get this money by collecting taxes.  Taxes, as we know, are taken from us with the implicit threat of violence.  Hence, whether we like it or not, our money will be confiscated by the government to stimulate the economy.  That goes against free-market principles, and certainly contributes to tilting the American economy from capitalism to socialism.

Obama famously stated to Joseph Wurzelbacher that he wants to “spread the wealth around.” In a nutshell, that means, once again, taking money from some people through threat of force and giving it to other people.  It shows a shocking lack of regard for personal property, another hallmark of socialism.

Obama’s having the government own a majority share in GM, one of the largest businesses in the country, certainly goes hand in hand with the whole idea of government controlling the means and production of goods.

Obama’s imaginary right to health insurance and healthcare reform where the government controls access to hospitals and doctor’s offices is pretty similar to the Socialist Party’s vision of what healthcare should be.

America elected the most left-liberal president in history.  I’m sure people voted for him for different reasons, but to those of us who looked at his record before voting, there are no surprises.  He is a socialist.  He is trying to turn the U.S. into a socialist country with his policies.   If you voted for him, you must have known that this was going to happen.  You wanted to take America from its free-market roots and spread the wealth around.  It’s okay.  Own it.  Socialist doesn’t have to be a dirty word.

  • I am refinancing and now I MUST use Fannie Mae = Government. They OWN all mortgages now – and guess what? They have HUGE surcharges mandatory now, and you cannot get around it. They charge regular folks surcharges while they bail out their crony banking friends with billions.

  • No doubt we will all be reduced to eating bush meat just to survive.
