Dear McCain supporters:
In a previous post, I provided reasons for why I voted for Obama. I’m not asking for a refutation of my reasons for voting this way; I got plenty of them in the comments section. As someone who tends toward the Democrats, I depend on The Waterglass for my conservative news. I find myself understanding this point of view better and I develop a better sense of empathy for this way of thinking (I even end up agreeing with some views, not most, but definitely come away with more cynicism toward government. All “liberals” should read conservatives, and vice versa).
Now, I want to know why you want to vote for McCain. I’ve looked around the conservative blogs, and all I see are posts about how bad Obama is. I rarely find a post that says how great McCain is. Why are you voting for McCain?
My suspicion is that McCain supporters are not voting FOR McCain, but rather AGAINST OBAMA. This is usually a bad situation, because this means no matter who wins, there will be unease, just less so with the lesser of the two evils. I faced this situation with Kerry in 2004. I have mixed feelings about his loss: I would be unhappy if he was President, but I felt worse by having Bush as President. I’m sorta glad he lost because now I have a candidate I think will be a good President, but I had to go through four more years of Bush to get there.
I have reasons why I am against McCain and maybe I’ll waste a little cyberspace writing about it. But I am more interested in why you are voting for McCain.
Thank you for your attention. I look forward to your response.
Sincerely yours,
Joshua

I’m voting for McCain because he’s not a wealth-redistributing douchebag as much as the other asshole.
When I can find the time, I plan to lay out my reasons why it’s a gigantic mistake to vote for Obama. Not that it’ll change anyone’s mind.
This is what I want to know: do you think McCain would be a good president? What will McCain do as President that is worth voting for him? If your vote is just against Obama, why not just vote libertarian? I hear plenty of reasons to not want Obama, but why is McCain worth the vote?
Because to vote for the Libertarian candidate is to throw one’s vote away.
He won’t do as President what Obama is likely to do.
