I Want Chasmous To Be a Word

By Joshua, August 29, 2008 6:51 am

I am hereby proclaiming on the internet that I believe that the word “chasmous” should be a word.

Chasm:  a marked division, separation, or difference.

Chasmous:  marked by extraordinarily great size, sort of like enormous, but referring to gaps and other chasms.  So, the distance between one side and the other of the Grand Canyon is chasmous, but a huge pickle can be only enormous, not chasmous.

Other example: The distance between Obama and McCain on the issue of the economy is chasmous.  It is also enormous, but since chasmous refers directly to gaps, the word chasmous is a better choice than enormous.
