Spit and Polish

In the interest of non-partisan contempt for individuals who resort to violence against those with whom they disagree, I present to you a story about a guy who spit on Hanoi Jane Fonda:

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – A man spit tobacco juice into the face of actress Jane Fonda after waiting in line to have her sign her new book, police said.

The man ran off but was quickly caught by police Tuesday night and charged with disorderly conduct….

Capt. Rich Lockhart of the Kansas City Police Department said that although Fonda did not want to press charges against Michael A. Smith, 54, of Kansas City, he was arrested on a municipal charge of disorderly conduct after off-duty officers caught him just outside Unity Temple, where Fonda was signing books.

Just what did he hope to prove? There’s something very small about a “man” who does a petty act of violence like that and then runs off in an attempt to avoid the consequences. Like the pie-throwers on the left, Michael Smith deserves censure and scorn.

I’m sure who ever wrote this about Mr. Smith is a minimalist, who cannot see the whole picture. What he did served as a representation of “just deserts” for what she did to our troops. While spitting is not neccesarily the smartest action to take against her, I can think of no better symbolic gesture. If I ever meet the man I will shake his hand in gratitude.

  • Well, James, I wrote this, and I’m not sure what you mean by “minimalist.” I just don’t think that spitting tobacco juice into an elderly woman’s face is an acceptable form of protest.

For my part, I hold Jane Fonda in contempt for her previous actions during the Vietnam War, but I’ll express it here instead of, well, assaulting her. I can only imagine that the sort of individual who applauds Smith’s action also approves of hitting women in general. You know, to show them what’s what.
