Or, better put, the fight against email spam may lead researchers to the cure for HIV.
CNET reports today in their article “Microsoft: Antispam tools assist HIV research” that the tools being developed to anaylze patterns in spam and legitimate email messages may have value in finding previously unknown patterns in HIV strain mutations.
“The researchers said their work illustrates how medical experts can use machine-learning, data-mining and other software methods to sort through millions of strains of HIV and improve vaccines. By seeking out genetic patterns that could be used to train a person’s immune system to fight the virus, they are already making headway, the researchers said. ”
I actually would have less hatred for spam if in the fight against it we end up with a cure for AIDS.
